Members of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike Yuva Sene, a pro-Kannada group, reportedly held protests in Bengaluru against Bollywood actor Sunny Leone's New Year eve event .
Following protests in which the group threatened to commit mass suicide if Leone performs, the Karnataka government has decided not to permit the event.
The organisation called such events 'an assault on Kannada culture'. The demonstrators set ablaze posters of Sunny at Manyata Tech Park, where the New Year bash has been scheduled to take place.

"I have instructed (authorities) not to allow such events. Don't bring her (Leone) here. People are opposed to the event. Let them (organisers) organise events related to Kannada culture and literature, which is our heritage," said Karnataka Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy.
