Amreli (Gujarat), Nov 7 (PTI) A seven-year-old boy was killed in a leopard attack in Gujarat's Amreli district on Saturday morning, forest officials said.
The incident occurred around 8.45 am at an agricultural farm owned by Jitubhai Manjariya between Mota Bhandariya and Sanosara villages, according to a report shared by Deputy Conservator of Forests Chirag Amin.
The leopard attacked the minor, Sahil Kalasava, while he was playing as his parents were working as farm labourers in the cotton field, it said.
The boy sustained fatal injuries to his head and abdomen, and died on the spot, the report said.
The forest officials said the leopard took advantage of the tall cotton crop to ambush and attack the child.
Following the incident, officials from the Liliya Wildlife Range visited the site and conducted an inspection. The boy's body was subsequently sent to Civil Hospital in Amreli for a post-mortem examination.
The forest department has initiated further proceedings and is investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack. It has also recommended financial assistance under the applicable provisions for human deaths caused by wildlife attacks.
Meanwhile, efforts are underway to capture the leopard in the surrounding area, forest officials said.
