Harry Boxer, alias Harichand Jat, a key operative of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, has been detained in the United States following inputs from the Delhi Police and the Haryana Special Task Force (STF).
Boxer, believed to be a key figure in the gang’s extortion network, is among India’s most wanted gangsters. He faces several charges, including murder, attempt to murder, assault and firing. He has been named in multiple criminal cases registered in Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana.
Hailing from the Bamsur area of Rajasthan’s Kotputli-Behror district, Boxer earned his nickname after learning boxing while staying in Jaipur. He reportedly worked as a boxing coach before joining the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
Boxer is an accused in the firing incident at comedian Kapil Sharma’s cafe in Canada. His name has also surfaced in cases involving threats allegedly issued to several Bollywood celebrities, including Rohit Shetty, Ranveer Singh and Tusshar Kapoor.
He had claimed responsibility for the firing incident outside Rohit Shetty’s residence. Since then, security agencies have been closely tracking his movements.
While further details about his detention in California are awaited, Indian security agencies are expected to initiate the necessary legal process to bring him back to India. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), India’s nodal agency for international police cooperation, is likely to coordinate the process.
In January, Boxer was briefly detained by US authorities after attempting to apply for asylum. He was reportedly held by immigration officials before being allowed to leave.
