Amyra Dastur started her career as a model and made her Bollywood debut in 2013 with Issaq, opposite Prateik Babbar. Since then, she has acted in several Hindi, Telugu and Tamil films. Here, she talks about being an introvert, dropping out of school and following her dreams.

You have had three releases this year and the fourth is coming up.

I know. I cannot believe it. From not getting work at all to having these releases, it has been insane.

Was it difficult being an outsider in the industry?

I am happy to be an outsider who is getting noticed now. I have never been a very social person. You do not have to socialise in order to work well. For me, a perfect day is going to the set, shooting and coming back home.

You acted in Prassthanam recently and now, Made in China. How was the experience of working on these films?

With Prassthanam, I was around people (Sanjay Dutt, Manisha Koirala, Jackie Shroff) whom I have grown up watching. I was so star-struck that I cannot describe the feeling. Made in China is my second film with Rajkummar Rao (after Judgementall Hai Kya), so I felt a certain level of comfort on the sets. It also stars Boman (Irani) sir, and my Parsi family just went crazy over that.

You dropped out of school to pursue acting. Was it worth it?

I went back to school though and finished it. You can technically call me a college drop-out. I was offered Issaq when I was 18 and studying in Class 11. I would have regretted it if I was not working the way I am now. But I would have regretted it even more had I not chased my dream.
