After announcing its selfie specific- A series at the Mobile World Congress, Barcelona, Gionee has officially launched the A1 in India. Assembled in India, the device carries a ‘made in India’ tag on its back.
The Gionee A1 focuses on two important smart-phone features, camera and battery. The 16 megapixels front camera is equipped with a F2.0 aperture and a front flash for shooting in low-light environments. The rear camera is 13 megapixels and has a F2.0 aperture with SONY IMX 258 sensor.
It is powered by a 2.0 GHz MediaTek processor with 4GB RAM. It features the latest version of Android Nougat 7.0 with Gionee’s proprietary Amigo OS on top. The 5.5 inch device has 1920x1080 HD resolution.
The internal memory of 64 GB is expandable up to 256 GB. 4G and VOLTE enabled, the A1 has hybrid slots that can either accommodate dual SIMs or a memory card with a SIM.
At the launch event, Arvind R Vohra, Country CEO & MD, Gionee India, said that this device is released in support of the ‘Make in India’ campaign by the government. Focusing on the selfie movement, Gionee also announced a campaign just for Indian selfie-lovers, #Selfiestan.
“Selfies aren’t just a narcissistic act; they are a form of individual expression. Through #Selfiestan, we at Gionee plan to give India a sense of ownership and belonging by creating a world of Hindustan ki selfies,” added Mr. Vohra.
Gionee hasn’t revealed the price yet, but it is a mid range device that perhaps falls under the Rs 25,000 segment or below segment. It will be available for pre-booking from March 31.
