Sansui is a respected Japanese brand in electronics. Yet, open the box of Sansui Horizon 2 handset, the protective plastic sheath on the screen proudly proclaims 'Made in India'—a true marriage of Japan's technology and India's burgeoning manufacturing muscle. Close on the heels of Horizon 1, comes this new handset, Horizon 2. It is only a bit costlier at Rs 4,999, but great value with its significantly beefed up specs.
Running the latest Android 7.0 OS, the phone has a 5 inch 720p screen and comes with 2 GB RAM, 16 GB storage, expandable to 64 GB. It is powered by a very decent processor—a quad core 1.25 GHz Mediatek chip running a 64 bit system. The 5 MP selfie camera and 8 MP rear camera both have flash and the 2450 mAh battery is good to go for a full day.
It is difficult to differentiate mobile phones with similar specs, but I liked the little touches that Sansui has put into this handset—features not often found in this price bracket, like an IR Blaster that allows you to use the phone as a TV remote, support for On The Go or OTG USB, which means the phone can act as either a USB device or a USB host. Thus, it can be connected to a PC for uploading pictures or act as a host controlling a memory stick.
Useful pre-installed apps include UC Browser and US News, Daily Hunt (formerly News Hunt) an Indian news aggregator in multiple languages, an Office suite and Peel—free smart TV remote app that turns your smartphone into a smart universal remote and lets you browse thousands on Internet TV sites.
Most importantly, this supports 4G VoLTE in one of its two SIM slots. This makes the phone ready to work with all 4G services in India. And with VoLTE, you can achieve better call quality with services like Jio.
In short, it is a smartphone worth the money for those want to access the best 4G speeds today without paying through the nose.
