After an initial set of exchanges between the duo ended, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson reportedly sent a handful of one-sided messages to his transgender roommate, with whom he reportedly shared a romantic relationship. In these exchanges, he claims the weapon he carried to his sniper's nest belonged to his grandfather and shared his concern for the consequences when his father finds out it was missing.

Tyler also talks about the towel being the only thing he had to leave behind and the probe team's likelihood to trace the weapon back to him. He hoped that they would get any prints from the weapon, before confirming that he did engrave a few messages on the bullet cases that were used to target Kirk. He also mentioned that a costly scope was attached to the rifle when it was abandoned.

"How the fucking will I explain losing it to my old man," Robinson was quoted as texting his roommate by CNN, according to the charging documents. "I’m worried what my old man would do if I didn’t bring back grandpa's rifle … idek if it had a serial number, but it wouldn’t trace to me. I worry about prints I had to leave it in a bush where I changed outfits. didn’t have the ability or time to bring it with me. … I might have to abandon it and hope they don’t find prints," the media outlet claimed him as saying in one text.

"remember how I was engraving bullets? The fucking messages are mostly a big meme, if I see “notices bulge uwu” on Fox News I might have a stroke alright I'm going to have to leave it, that really fucking sucks. … judging from today I’d say grandpa's gun does just fine idk. I think that was a $2k scope ;-;" he reportedly added. For the unversed, pro-transgender and anti-fascist ideology were engraved on the ammunition recovered from the bolt-action rifle found from a wooded area. This was seen as a major clue regarding the motive of the assassin.
