Battleground state North Carolina is pink no more, with Donald Trump winning the third consecutive time. The state with 16 electoral votes, along with Georgia, was a key “swing state” due to Obama’s 2008 win, but it looks like it has gone back to its routes. Before Obama, Democrats won it only back in 1976.

In our analysis of the swing states, it was already termed a “dangerous place for Democrats.” This is a crucial win for Trump, who was linked to the state’s first African American lieutenant governor, Republican Mark Robinson—who was recently in the news for an alleged porn scandal and a nazi scandal.

Robinson suffered a defeat in the race to be North Carolina’s governor, with Democrat attorney general Josh Stein winning in the gubernatorial election.

Democrats could not capitalize on an extensive campaign, since Trump and JD Vance made their visits more visible, calling for strong resolves on the crackdown of illegal immigrants. The southern border and the economic agenda were also the Republican party’s key campaign points.
