The Israeli strike on Damascus, Syria has killed five members of the Revolutionary Guards on Saturday. According to Iran's Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), several members of Syrian armed forces were also killed in the strikes.

The Syrian state media reported an Israeli “aerial attack” on a building in the Mazzeh neighbourhood of Damascus and said Syrian air defences had shot down a number of missiles.

Iran has called it as a "terrorist" attack by Israel.

"Once more the criminal Zionist regime has moved to violate the city of Damascus, the Syrian capital, and during an airstrike by the fighter jets of the invading and occupying regime a number of Syrian forces and four military advisers of the Islamic Republic of Iran were martyred," said IRGC in a statement.

In December, an Israeli air strike killed two Guards members, and another near Damascus. The Decemeber strike had killed a senior adviser to the Guards who was overseeing military coordination between Syria and Iran.

The Middle East crisis intensified after the Israel-Hamas war. The tensions spread to regions of Syria, Lebanon, northern Iraq and in the Red Sea.

Meanwhile, at least 22 Palestinians were arrested in occupied West Bank by Israeli forces.

Also protests are erupting in Israel seeking the release of the hostages held by Hamas since October 7.

However, a senior Hamas leader ridiculed United States’s hope of Israel agreeing to the two-state solution. A senior Hamas official on Saturday dismissed comments by US President Joe Biden about the possibility of Israel agreeing to the establishment of a Palestinian state, reported The Guardian.

On Friday Biden had said it was still possible for Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could agree to some form of Palestinian state after the two leaders spoke by phone.

“The illusion that Biden is preaching about a state of Palestine and its characteristics does not fool our people,” Izzat al-Rishq, member of Hamas’s political bureau, said in a statement. “Biden is a full partner in the genocidal war and our people do not expect any good from him.”

Iran condemned the deadly strike on Syria on Saturday. Its a "desperate attempt to spread instability in region," said Iran's foreign ministry.

“Iran … reserves its right to respond to the organised terrorism of the fake Zionist regime at the appropriate time and place,” the foreign ministry spokesperson, Nasser Kanaani, was quoted by state media as saying.
