A former Pakistan Army major and a YouTube star's controversial statement about several actresses and models being used by the country's spy agency ISI has triggered a controversy in the country.
Adil Raja, a former spokesperson for Pakistan Ex-Servicemen Society currently based in the UK, alleged that several politicians were invited and several videos were purportedly recorded.
He further added that Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa and General Faiz Hameed used these actors as bait to record scandalous videos of politicians and some other people.
Though he refused to reveal the names of these actresses, Adil took their initials of their names. "First one is MH, second is MK, third is AK (in another video, it sounds like KK) and fourth is SA. I don't want to insinuate something and it is painful for me to share this information with you. God as my witness, you can see how torn I feel about this."
His 'revealation' soon went viral with some Pakistani actresses coming out against Adil's remarks. Sajal Aly, who many believed is one of the people Adil mentioned, took to Twitter to respond to the allegations. "It is very sad that our country is becoming morally debased and ugly. Character assassination is the worst form of humanity and sin," said Aly, who starred in Sridevi-starrer Mom.
Though she didnt make any mention to Adil or the statements, Aly's remarks soon went viral.
Another actress Kubra Khan too, shared a message lashing out at Adil. "I stayed quiet initially because obviously a fake video isn't going to take over my existence but enough is enough!" she shared. "If you think that any random person can just point his finger at me and I wouldn't respond, then you are terribly mistaken."
She also asked him for proof against allegations. "You have a total of three days to come up with this proof which you claim is the truth. If not, either retract your statement and publicly apologise or I will be suing you for defamation. And don't worry, lucky for you, I am not just from here. I am from the UK, so I will come there if I have to. Because I am on the side with the truth and I am not scared of anyone," she posted.
Adil, however, said he never named Kubra.
"People forget humanity for their shallow popularity. Hope you’re enjoying your two minutes of fame," the Punjab Nahi Jaungi star wrote. "Just because I am an actress, doesn’t mean my name can be dragged through the mud."
The YouTuber later clarified that he never mentioned any names and there were numerous names of models, actresses, and celebrities in Pakistan and abroad, with the initials that I have mentioned.
Though Adil Raja's comments have not been officially confirmed or denied, Pakistan is said to have had a long history with using honey-trap for espionage.
Last year, a few years back, a 24-year-old Indian Army jawan Shantimay Rana was arrested for allegedly leaking military information to Pakistan. He was allegedly honey-trapped by a Pakistani woman.
