A Canadian climber fell nearly 1000 feet on Tuesday during an expedition on Alaska’s Denali mountain. He is in critical condition the National Park Service said.

31-year-old Adam Rawski from British Columbia took a fall late Monday from Denali Pass at the 18,200-foot level of Denali. He was taken away by helicopter to Anchorage hospital.

Climbers at the mountain's 17,200-foot-high camp witnessed Rawski’s fall. Rawski was “unresponsive due to multiple traumatic injuries,” the park service told Reuters. He fell as he was descending Denali, which stands at 20,310 feet tall. About 382 climbers on the mountain on Tuesday. North America’s highest peak was shut in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Denali National Park has had three serious accidents this season, including Rawski’s fall.

A ski mountaineer died after he fell into a falling into a glacial crevasse in the southeastern part of the park on May 3. Ten days later, a climber was killed after a block of ice fell on him as he was ascending the ridge.
