Two months after prominent Keralite businessman Joy Arakkal jumped to his death in Dubai, another entrepreneur from the same state has ended his life by jumping off a business tower in the emirate of Sharjah. Media reports claimed T.P. Ajith (also known as Ajith Thayyil) ended his life by suicide on Monday.

Ajith (55) was known for his association with the defunct Kerala Premier League (KPL-Dubai) T20 cricket tournament. Ajith headed a company called Space Max Contracting, which Gulf News reported was a "a turnkey design-and-build contracting firm... famous for making metal frames for supermarkets and warehouses of popular hypermarkets”.

Onmanorama reported, "Ajith had been living in the United Arab Emirates for 30 years. He was the director of Dubai-based Space Solutions International Group. There is a godown, logistic department, a workshop and a cold storage facility beneath Space Solutions International."

"On Monday, he reached Sharjah from Dubai before jumping from the building in Abdul Nasser Street, which falls under the limits of Al Buhairah police station. He was immediately rushed to the Al Qassimi Hospital, but he could not be saved," Onmanorama reported.

Media reports highlighted the similarities between the lives and deaths of Arakkal and Ajith. "While Arakkal was known for his palatial house in the Wayanad district of Kerala, dubbed as one of the biggest in the state, Thayyil had built one of the biggest houses at his hometown in Kannur district," Gulf News reported. Financial problems had driven Arakkal to suicide, the police had said in late April. Associates of Ajith said he did not have major financial problems.

"Ajith was going through some mental stress due to problems caused by the COVID pandemic. But it never seemed like he was facing any financial crisis," Onmanorama quoted a friend of Ajith as saying.
