Zimbabwe ex-president Robert Mugabe has died aged 95. The country's President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced it on his official Twitter account. "It is with the utmost sadness that I announce the passing on of Zimbabwe's founding father and former President, Cde Robert Mugabe," a post on Mnangagwa's official presidential Twitter account said. Mugabe was living in Singapore when he died. He had previously received medical treatment there.

Mugabe, known to be a despotic ruler, took to power in 1980 and was finally overthrown in 2017. During Mugabe's rule, several Zimbabweans fled the country as the economy took a downturn and agricultural production plummeted in the wake of farm reforms.

Unemployment was also at its highest under the regime of one of the most "hated presidents".
