India pacer Gurnoor Brar is being warned after it was found that he was guilty of breaching the ICC Code of Conduct following an on-field incident during the opening ODI against England in Birmingham.
According to the council, Brar was found to have breached Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “throwing a ball at or near a player in an inappropriate and or dangerous manner during an international match.”
Following this, ICC issued the pacer an official warning and added one demerit point to his disciplinary record after he admitted to the offence.
When did the incident take place?
It took place in the eighth over of England’s innings, when Brar picked up the ball while fielding and threw it towards the batter in an inappropriate and dangerous manner. The charges were levelled by the on-field umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Mike Burns, third umpire Sam Nogajski, and fourth official Russell Warren.
There was no need for a formal hearing as Brar accepted the responsibility for his actions and admitted the offence.
Under the ICC code of conduct, players who have four or more demerit points over a two-year window face suspension points, which can eventually lead to bans from international matches.
Meanwhile, India will be missing wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul due to illness, as Ishan Kishan comes in. England dropped pacer Josh Tongue and spinner Liam Dawson to include pacers Saqib Mahmood and Gus Atkinson in the side.
