Australia cruised to an eight-wicket win against England in the second Ashes Test at the Gabba on Sunday (December 7). With just 65 to win in their second innings, Australia knocked off the runs in just 10 overs to complete a dominant victory, putting them 2-0 ahead in the five-match series with three games to go.

Stand-in skipper Steve Smith was in a real hurry during his 9-ball 23 with two sixes and as many fours in his innings. The veteran batter's second six was the match-sealing stroke and he was all over the place like a buoyant warrior. The escalation, though, had happened a bit earlier when he got into a WWE-style banter with Jofra Archer.

The game's penultimate over, bowled by Archer, began with a short delivery that Smith smashed to the fence. It was 149kph but the bounce wasn't threatening and Smith was ready to belt it away past mid-wicket. The next delivery was bowled faster, at 149kph, and Smith's attempt to play the upper cut didn't materialize. He was instantly shadow practising the shot, only to see Archer staring at him.4

The speedster's pace kept going up and the next delivery was short, and forced a top-edge over the keeper as Smith got rushed into the hook stroke. Archer continued to give glares on his followthrough, and this time Smith was having none of it. "Bowl fast when nothing is going on, champion!" chirped Smith to Archer.

Archer was fuming at the comment and his next delivery clocked 150.5kph, only for Smith to bully it over fine leg for six with a clean pick up-hook stroke. Although the result of the game was a foregone conclusion quite some while back, this banter was peak Ashes cricket and the crowd's response to the duel was electric.
