Veterans Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma hit the ground running soon after their arrival in Australia, showing rigour in the nets during Team India's first training session ahead of the ODI series against Australia beginning here on Sunday. Both former India captains batted for close to 30 minutes in the nets.

All eyes are on Rohit and Kohli, who last played for India in the Champions Trophy in February-March, and are available only in the 50-over format.
Records that Kohli can break Down Under
Virat Kohli is particularly in focus as the series Down Under is an opportunity for him to shut his critics by rewriting the cricket history books. With 51 ODI centuries apiece, Virat Kohli is currently at par with 'Master Blaster' Sachin Tendulkar's unique record. While the Delhi batter is the player with most tons in the 50-over format, Tendulkar managed the feat in the longest format of the game. If he can score a ton against Australia, Kohli will become the player with most centuries in a single format.

With 14,181 runs to his credit, Kohli is the highest run-scorer in the format among active players. In the all-time list, he is third behind Tendulkar (18,426) and Sri Lanka great Kumar Sangakkara (14,234). This means, a few runs after a half-century against the Kangaroos could take Kohli past Sangakkara's tally to become the second-highest run-scorer in the format ever.
According to reports, Kohli has so far managed 802 runs in 18 matches in Australia. Should he manage to breach the 900- or 1,000-run mark during the series, he could unlock another unique feat, the reports said.
All eyes on Kohli and Rohit
It could well be the last time that the two ODI greats of the game tour Australia. Boasting almost 600 ODIs between them, both 36-year-old Kohli and 38-year-old Rohit are active internationally only in the 50-over format but their future beyond the three-match series is uncertain. India have been unbeaten in the ODI format this year but Australia could well end their winning run.
