Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen will not receive a new contract at Old Trafford when his current contract runs out at the end of the season. The 32-year-old former Inter Milan player will soon start looking for options, popular football journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed on Monday.

Denmark international Eriksen became Manchester United's number 14 after making a move from Premier League rivals Brentford in 2022. The 32-year-old, who had collapsed during EURO 2020 due to a cardiac arrest, earlier donned the colours if Ajax and Tottenham ahead of joining Inter in 2020.

"Christian Eriksen will soon start exploring options for his next chapter, as he’s set to leave Man United at the end of the season. His contract won’t be extended and Eriksen will be a free agent in the summer," Fabrizio Romano said on X.

Eriksen has made 93 appearances for Manchester United across all competitions, scoring 7 times. An Erik Ten Hag recruit, the Danish international made 44 appearances across all competitions in his first season as a Red, scoring twice and registering 10 assists.

However, the creative midfielder has fallen down the pecking order under Ruben Amorim, who prefers speedy players to charge through the wings.

In their last outing, United lost 1-0 to Tottenham on Sunday to leave the 20-time champion 15th in the Premier League. It was the ninth defeat for Amorim since he took over as United manager in November.

Amorim, who won two Portuguese league titles with Sporting Lisbon, has endured a torrid start to his United career, with his team just three places above the relegation zone.

The last time United lost 12 of its first 25 games in a league season was in the 1973-74 campaign when it was relegated from the top flight.
