Injury-ravaged Real Madrid will not bring back their legendary captain Sergio Ramos, a prominent Spanish media reported. A section of the fans and pundits had asked the defending European and Spanish champions to re-sign their legend in the backdrop of their defensive department reporting multiple injury blows.
Why Real Madrid is looking for defensive reinforcements
With Eder Militao and Lucas Vazques on Saturday becoming the latest additions to the players out injured, Real Madrid is in dire need of reinforcements in centre-back and right-back positions. Captain Dani Carvajal, the team's first-choice RB, will not return until next season after suffering an ACL tear. Militao and Vazques, the two others who can play in the position, were injured during Saturday's La Liga game against Osasuna.
With David Alaba already sidelined, Antonio Ruediger, Ferland Mendy, Vallejo and Fran Gracia are the only defenders for the Los Blancos in their senior squad to choose from. It is against this backdrop that many, including former player Guti, put pressure on Real to bring back Sergio Ramos to Bernabeu.
The 38-year-old, who is capable of playing in the right defensive flank if needed, is the best short-term solution for the side's defensive woes, they claim. The return of an experienced campaigner like Ramos could lift the morale of the depleted unit. Also in the mix of things is the fact that Ramos remains without a team since leaving Sevilla FC. The free-agent rule permits Real to sign him immediately, despite the transfer window remaining shut. Thus, bringing home the veteran captain, who enjoys legendary status among the Madridistas is the best solution, Guti argued.
“Sergio Ramos is without a team. Right back and centre-back, at zero cost... If you want to go to the market and sign a centre-back for the next ten years, paying a lot of money, fine. But to end up bringing in a patch, someone who you don't know how he's going to turn out, I prefer Sergio Ramos. A man who has been in the house, who was active last year, who continues to take care of himself, and who can complete these six months,” Guti was quoted as saying by Spanish media.
Real Madrid will not sign Sergio Ramos again, here's why
However, despite the crisis, Real Madrid are unlikely to welcome their former captain back, a Spanish media report said. The relationship between Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and Ramos is not very warm, making the latter's comeback almost impossible.

According to the decision-makers in Madrid, Sergio Ramos "is a closed chapter", AS said in a report. At his age, the man who delivered Real's Champions League 'La Decima' is highly unlikely to match the club's demands, they believe. Perez's "broken relationship" with him is another factor that makes his "return practically impossible," AS added.
Sergio Ramos is in no mood to retire yet
Sergio Ramos has been without a team since July 1, when he ended his contract with Sevilla FC -- his boyhood club. Boca Juniors has been after him for some time, but Ramos is hesitant to leave Europe either for South America's cheers of Middle East's money. AS claims that Ramos wants to end his career in Europe and is hoping for a bid from one of the big boys. Despite being without a club, Ramos remains in the best shape to keep his chances of finding a taker alive. Last season the Spanish great played 37 games spending a total of 3,301 minutes on the ground and scoring seven goals.
