UFC superstar Conor McGregor was arrested in Dublin for "alleged road traffic violations" on Wednesday. According to the Irish Independent, McGregor was driving dangerously in his Bentley Continental GT.
The 33-year-old mixed martial artist—who calls himself The Notorious—was driving to the gym when he was stopped by the police for the offence, his spokesperson told ESPN. He passed the drug and alcohol tests taken at the station.
McGregor was charged and released “pending an appearance before Blanchardstown District Court at a later date”, according to the Lucan Garda Station spokesperson.
The fighter, who is said to already hold a number of road traffic convictions, had his luxury car seized following yesterday's arrest. It was later returned to him.
The Irishman has had frequent run-ins with the law besides his driving convictions. In 2019, he punched a man at a bar in Dublin, for which he pleaded guilty. He was also arrested in France in 2020 for alleged sexual assault, but was released after questioning.
McGregor was the world's highest earning athlete in 2021 and the first UFC fighter to ever hold two titles in two different weight classes simultaneously, when he held the featherweight and the lightweight belts.
McGregor has been photographed frequently with his Bentley in front of the Black Forge Inn in Crumlin, which he purchased for €2 million in 2019.
He's been spending more time in Dublin lately, training for a comeback from a major leg injury.
