Indian auto major Mahindra and Mahindra saw sales cross 1 lakh vehicles in August 2026, driven by an impressive 23.7 per cent jump in commercial vehicle sales.
Commercial vehicle sales, including sales made by Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Limited and SML Mahindra Limited, hit 29,830 units in August, pushing the total vehicle sales up 40.5 per cent year-on-year to 1,04,009 units.
Among the passenger vehicles, the Mahindra Scorpio Diesel continued to be the leader, with the automaker selling 61.5 per cent more vehicles this August, bringing its sales tally to 15,155.
The diesel variant of the Thar (including Thar Roxx) was the second-biggest sales driver, up 57.8 per cent year-on-year to 9,789 vehicles sold in the month.
The Indian festive season kicked off in August, mostly in the South states. From September, the North side of the country joins in; festive buying is usually recorded till November, when Diwali concludes.
Industry peer Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) earlier reported a 23.6 per cent jump in domestic sales of 54,396 units, its highest-ever for August.
Industry leader Maruti Suzuki saw its total domestic sales soar to 185,376 units, up 28.6 per cent, while Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles saw its total sales jump 56 per cent year-on-year to 67,753 units in August 2026.
Many automakers were also impacted by logistical issues stemming from the West Asia crisis that persisted through the month. However, industry watchers expect demand to ramp up this month.
