India cricketer T. Natarajan on Tuesday underwent knee surgery following an injury he picked up earlier this year, the fast bowler confirmed on his Instagram account, and is expecting to return to action “stronger and fitter” than ever before.
Natarajan had picked up the injury during the tour of Australia earlier this year. The Sunrisers Hyderabad player was ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League last week due to the injury.
However, it looks like the 30-year-old is determined to make a strong comeback as he shared a picture from the hospital bed post-surgery. Natarajan also thanked his doctors and medical staff, his followers and the BCCI for supporting him throughout.
“Today, I underwent knee surgery- and am grateful for the expertise, attention and kindness of the medical team, surgeons, doctors, nurses and staff. I’m grateful to #bcci and to all that have wished well for me.
“The road back to the 22 yards is long. But I have taken the most crucial step today. Looking forward to coming back - stronger and fitter than ever before.
“Thanks to all of you for your support, blessings and good wishes,” he wrote on Instagram.
It has not been revealed for how long Natarajan would be unavailable as he recovers from the surgery. He had featured in only two matches in the latest edition of the IPL for SRH.
The BCCI had said that the pacer had never fully recovered from the knee injury because of the heavy workload he endured on the tour of Australia. He was not 100 per cent match ready following his rehabilitation in the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru when he was declared fit to play against England.
Natarajan is the only Indian to make his international debut in all the three formats on the same tour during India’s tour of Australia.
