Delhi will bid for 2048 Olympics, says CM Arvind Kejriwal

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has said that the national capital will bid to host the Olympics in 2048 after his deputy Manish Sisodia, who also holds the finance portfolio, presented the budget for 2021-22 on Tuesday. Kejriwal said that a vision has been provided for hosting the quadrennial event in the budget.

“A vision has been provided in the budget that 2048 Olympic games should be held in Delhi. Delhi will bid for the 2048 Olympics. We will take up whatever infrastructure and other necessities that are needed to be created for it,” the chief minister said.

“Delhi’s Finance Minister Manish Sisodia has made a great budget. The budget was prepared keeping in mind people of all sections of the society,” he added.

Sisodia presented a budget worth Rs 69,000 crore for 2021-22 on Tuesday, calling it a ‘Deshbhakti Budget’ in keeping with the celebration of the 75th year of India’s independence.

In the seventh budget presented by Sisodia, the deputy CM allocated as much as 24 per cent of the budget or Rs 16,377 crore for education, 14 per cent or Rs 9,934 crore for health and 13 per cent or Rs 9,394 crore for transport, roads and bridges.

He further said that COVID-19 vaccine will be provided free of cost in government hospitals in the coming phases of inoculation, with Rs 50 crore allocated for the same.

The budget session of the Delhi Assembly is scheduled till March 16.
