Ahead of their Indian Premier League clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kings XI Punjab captain K.L. Rahul will be hoping for some good fortune for his team which is currently languishing at the bottom of the points table.
Considering the exploits of the deadly combo of RCB’s Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, Rahul has an extra reason to turn things around for KXIP.
KXIP, in an IPL match in the early stages of the tournament, defeated RCB by a whopping 97 runs. De Villiers scored 28 runs off 18 balls while Kohli managed only one off five.
However, since then, the fortunes of both teams have turned with RCB finding itself in the third spot in the points table after both Kohli and de Villiers fired up with the bat. Punjab, meanwhile, have lost six of their seven matches.
During an Instagram interactive session, Kohli asked Rahul that if given a choice, what rule he would change in the IPL or T20 cricket. To this, the KXIP captain said he would ask the IPL to ban Kohli and de Villiers!
“To start off, I think I would ask IPL to ban you and AB for next year. Once you have achieved a certain amount of runs, I think, the people should say ‘it’s enough’. Once you get 5,000 runs it’s enough, now you guys let the others do the work,” Rahul quipped.
Rahul also reminded the RCB captain of his slippery fingers from their previous match when Kohli dropped the KXIP skipper twice.
“I’ve always had fun playing with or against RCB. So yeah, looking forward to one more cracker. I’m just hoping that some of your fielders can drop a couple more catches,” Rahul joked.
But Kohli warned Rahul that he should think twice about hitting the ball in the air in their upcoming match.
“As last time, I’m going into the same position by the way. So you might want to think twice before hitting it in the air,” Kohli said.
During the chat, the players also talked about KXIP’s loss to Kolkata Knight Riders last week. KXIP were well in sight of the target of 165, with Rahul and Mayank Agarwal stitching up a 115-run opening partnership. However, KKR’s bowlers took the game away in the later half as they won by a mere 2 runs.
