Lockdown is hard on children with little chance of outdoor activity. But not if you are the son of six-time world champion and Rajya Sabha MP MC Mary Kom. It was a birthday to remember for Prince Kom, who turned seven on Thursday. Police officials from Tughlak Road Police station, led by ACP Pragya Tiwari reached Kom’s home with a cake and a gift for him.

The cops were seen singing happy birthday to him. Kom posted the video on Twitter, thanking the police officials for their gesture. “You all are real frontline warriors, I salute you all for your dedication and commitment,” she wrote.

However, Twitterati did not take kindly to this. Several users criticized the Delhi Police for the display. Another user wrote, “So, such VIP service during COVID times comes under priority list rather than helping those who are suffering.”

Another user simply posted a video of a family of migrant labourers along with kids, walking several kilometres to reach their hometown. Another user wrote, “Delhi Police- what have you reduced yourself too? Mary can get a cake delivered from many places via Swiggy and Zomato, but mumma darling has to show off, and of course, Prince Kom will have a nice story to tell when he grows up.”

Over the last few weeks, several migrant labourers have been walking several kilometres to reach their homes along with their children.  Most of the time, they go for days without food and are lucky to be able to feed their families only if a samaritan offers them food while en route.
