On day 5 of the second Test between England and Australia, England declared for 258-5, leaving Australia just under 50 overs to hit the magic number of 267 by.

Ben Stokes hit a ton and set off a strong partnership with Jonny Bairstow (97 in 84 balls) to keep England to a healthy total. Australia came in to bat without the pride of their top-order, Steve Smith, who was ruled out of the day's play due to a concussion her suffered the previous day from a Jofra Archer deliver.

Once Australia were on the crease, Archer continued his dangerous spell, taking both David Warner and Usman Khawaja out within the first 13 overs, and hitting Labuschagne on the helmet and the hand with a series of bouncers like the one that took Steve Smith out of play.

Labuschagne was struck on the helmet and knocked to the ground. He was checked up upon by medical team before being cleared to bat — ending brief speculations that the first concussion substitute in the format may end up needing another concussion substitute.

Shortly after the tea break, Jack Leach took Cameron Bancroft out with an LBW,  leaving the Australia side at 49/3 after 15 overs with Labuschagne and Travis Head on strike.
