Rain once again played spoilsport at the ICC World Cup 2019, halting play in the 47th over in the semifinal between India and New Zealand at Old Trafford in Manchester.

New Zealand were 211/5 with Ross Taylor batting on 67* and Tom Latham on 3*.

The semifinal has a reserve day but rains are predicted for both the days. With the rain not too heavy, hopes of a DLS-shortened match are still alive. But it will be a curtailed one, since the two-hour deadline for the match to restart is over.

The match has to start by 18.35pm local time (22.35pm IST) to have a 20-over game at least. But for that, the rain has to stop at least an hour earlier.

At this stage, India's DLS-par target for a 20-over game would be 148.

In case the match is washed out today, the match will resume from the same point on the reserve day tomorrow.

But with more rain predicted tomorrow, the chances of a full match appear bleak.

If the semifinal is washed out, despite the reserve day, the team ranked higher in the league stage—India, in this case—will go through.

After the initial wobble, captain Kane Williamson steadied the ship first with a 68-run partnership with opener Henry Nicholls, and then with a 65-run stand with Taylor.
