Shaw will open alongside K.L. Rahul in the first Test. The 18-year-old right-hander earned his maiden call-up during India's tour of England, but didn't get the chance to play in a match. For the Rajkot Test, the star batsman was chosen over Mayank Agarwal.

Skipper Virat Kohli had pointed out that India needs to sort its top-order, and that youngsters will be given the opportunity to showcase their talents. The home series against the West Indies will prove to be the perfect platform for Shaw to make his case for the upcoming series in Australia.

Shaw led the India U-19 team to the World Cup title early this year. His exploits in first class cricket is another indicator of his talent. In 14 games, he averages 56.72 and has made seven hundreds and five half centuries including a ton on Ranji Trophy debut in November 2016.

Shaw also broke Tendulkar's record as the youngest player to hit a century in his Duleep Trophy debut.
