Filming has officially begun for "Operation Ganga", the Mohanlal-starrer earlier announced under the working title L367. The film was officially announced on September 4, 2026, when Mohanlal shared its first-look poster on social media. The project follows Mohanlal’s completion of director Tharun Moorthy’s "Thudarum" follow-up, "Athimanoharam".
Directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Vishnu Mohan, best known for Unni Mukundan-starrer "Meppadiyan", "Operation Ganga" is produced by Gokulam Gopalan under the Sree Gokulam Movies banner. The pan-Indian film is a biographical action drama based on India’s real-life Operation Ganga, the government-led mission to evacuate thousands of Indian citizens and students from Ukraine after the Russia-Ukraine war began.
The film features a strong multilingual cast, including Mohanlal, Arjun Rampal, Bhagyashri Borse, R. Parthiban and Adil Hussain. The technical team includes cinematographer Miroslaw Kuba Brozek, known for the "Pushpa" franchise, and composer Shashwat Sachdev, who has worked on "Uri: The Surgical Strike" and "Dhurandhar". Action choreography is being handled by Sea Young Oh, known for "Kill", "Dhurandhar", and "War", while Squadron Leader Varlin Panwar reportedly serves as military adviser. Shameer Muhammed ("Marco", "Rekhachithram") is the editor.
Vishnu Mohan reportedly spent months researching the mission, speaking with government officials and students who were evacuated. Pre-production began earlier this year. Given the scale of the story, filming will take place on secured sets in India and at international locations designed to recreate Eastern European border crossings.
"Operation Ganga" is expected to be among the promising series of films directed by young, promising filmmakers announced by Mohanlal recently.
