Google has reportedly cut some ties with Chinese technology company Huawei after the Trump Administration added Huawei to its global entity list.

Reuters reported that the move will hit businesses with Huawei that requires the transfer of hardware and software products except those covered by open source licenses. This means that popular Google apps such as Gmail, YouTube and the Chrome browser that are available through Google’s Play Store may disappear from future Huawei handsets.

Huawei users will no longer get access to critical apps and services provided by Google. However, Huawei smartphones with Google apps who have access to the Google Play Store can still be able to download app updates provided by Google.

The US federal government added Huawei Technologies Co Ltd to the blacklist on Thursday, placing immediate restrictions on the Chinese tech giant that severely restrict the ability of American firms to work with them.

The impact will not be much felt in the Chinese market since most Google mobile apps are already banned in China. The restrictions could impact Huawei’s trade outside China, particularly in Europe where Huawei licenses these services from Google in Europe.

Huawei can still use open-source version of Android OS on their phones. Huawei has been working on a contingency plan by developing its own software in place of using Android anticipating an action from the Trump Administration.
