UP Basic Education Minister Anupma Jaiswal, who had vowed not to wear a sweater till the kids of the government primary schools were given one each, was on Sunday seen wearing the garment as distribution of sweaters began in the state.

"So far, sweaters have been given to nearly 65 lakh children, and in a span of one week, the target of 1.54 crore sweaters to be given to children will be achieved," Jaiswal said.

She had pledged not to wear a sweater unless each student of government primary schools in the state were given one each.

The minister said because of technical and practical difficulties, there was a delay in the distribution process.

"When the state government had decided to distribute sweaters to children, production of woollens in a Ludhiana factory was over. The factory owner was then asked for another round of production," she added.
