BJP is known for following an unwritten "one person, one post' rule. Going by this, Union Minister Piyush Goyal might soon exit the Narendra Modi cabinet as he was appointed BJP national treasurer on Monday.
However, there is no official confirmation regarding this. Also, BJP has given exceptions in certain cases. A notable exception was J.P. Nadda who continued as BJP president even after being given ministerial portfolios like health as well as chemicals and fertilisers.
This could mean that BJP can make exceptions in certain cases, including Goyal's. Goyal had previously held the post of national treasurer before he vacated the post to become a minister in the first Modi government in May 2014.
Ram Madhav, former minister in the Modi cabinet, is now national vice president while former Union minister Smriti Iran, who exited the Modi cabinet after her defeat in Lok Sabha elections, has also joined BJP top brass as national general secretary. B.L. Santhosh has retained the key post of National General Secretary (Organisation).
Going by the "one person, one post" norm, Irani, Madhav and Santhosh are unlikely to join the cabinet during the upcoming reshuffle.
Former chief minister Rajasthan Vasundhara Raje Scindia, former Uttarakhand chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat andd former Union minister D Purandeshwari were named among the 13 BJP national vice-presidents while former Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb became one of the eight national general secretaries. The four of them are also unlikely to get a cabinet post in the upcoming reshuffle.
With Amit Malviya stepping down as IT department head, it remains to be seen if he would be inducted into the Modi cabinet as a first-time minister.
