As rain continues to lash out in Mumbai, at least 17 flights have been cancelled at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport.

The number of delayed and diverted flights also grew from 217 to about 365, as of 5 PM, as per local media reports, which also cited authorities' warnings of a low-pressure system strengthening over the region.

Large, turbulent waves—measuring just above 4m—could also be seen crashing against the seawall at Mumbai's Marine Drive on Monday as motorists across the state have been advised to navigate the adverse weather with caution.

In that regard, CM Devendra Fadnavis said on Monday that with the sharp rise in overall rainfall, Mumbai has recorded "one month's rain quota in just four days".

"Mumbai Metro train service is operating normally, while there are a few disruptions on the railway network. Buses too are operating normally," the CM added at a disaster management meeting.

This has led to at least 13 deaths in Mumbai over the past few days, in addition to three fresh deaths in Pune.

The heavy rains have also had a parallel effect on trains within and between Mumbai and other places, with over 120 trains affected so far.

Apart from disruptions to the Mumbai-Pune Ghat route by torrents of rain, continuous rainfall in the South East Ghat stretch—between Karjat and Lonavala—triggered a landslide between Thakurvadi and Monkey Hill Loop Cabin of the Mumbai Division, an Indian Express report said.

Central Railways has said that while train services are operating normally between CSMT and Karjat/Kasara, Karjat-Khopoli services have been suspended until further notice.

A speed limit of 15km/h has also been imposed on trains running the Saphale-Vaitarna route due to a rise in the water levels near Bridge No. 99.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has already issued a red alert for rainfall and strong winds across the state till Wednesday.

Specifically, red alerts have been issued for Mumbai, Raigad, Thane, Satara and Nashik for Monday, whereas an orange alert was issued for Palghar district. The red alert in Raigad was extended to Tuesday as the region is set to face extremely heavy rain and strong surface winds of about 60-70km/h.
