Following a series of claims regarding Twisha Sharma's mental health, family background, and alleged substance abuse, her mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, has further alleged that she smoked marijuana during her pregnancy. Currently, police are investigating her death in Bhopal as a suspected case of dowry harassment.

Model and actress, Twisha Sharma, was found hanging at her marital home in Bhopal's Katara Hills on May 12. She had met Samarth Singh, her husband, through a dating app and got married in 2025.

Giribala Singh, a retired judge, further stated that Sharma had been undergoing psychiatric treatment and that her parents had stayed away for months. Conversely, Sharma's father has accused her in-laws of subjecting her to months of physical abuse and dowry harassment.

Giribala attacked Sharma's parents by saying that they had never come to see her during the last five months. "They are earning because of her looks and are now not allowing her cremation. I have faith in the investigation agencies," she had said on Monday.

"Twisha's parents pushed her into the glamour world at an early age and later disowned her," she added.

She also said that Sharma had confessed that she had been consuming marijuana during pregnancy. "She had been undergoing a 'mental training programme', and we supported her throughout. She went for psychiatric counselling also, and medicines were prescribed to her, which are given to a schizophrenic patient... She would remain stable for a day or so, but then again, there would be a slight change in her condition. We observed some physical symptoms, a slight trembling in her hands, which is typical of withdrawal symptoms... She destroyed everything..."

Singh also claimed that Twisha had expressed regret after starting a medical termination of pregnancy (MTP) process.

Twisha's mother-in-law also levelled allegations against her parents, questioning their absence and the father's professional background.

The missing evidence

A lapse by police has come to light in the Twisha Sharma death investigation, amid nationwide demands for justice. The AIIMS Bhopal post-mortem report reveals that the investigating officer did not submit the belt—which the Noida woman allegedly used to hang herself at her matrimonial home—for forensic examination during the autopsy.

Due to this missing piece of crucial evidence, forensic doctors were unable to match the alleged ligature material with the marks on the woman's neck, raising serious questions about the integrity of the investigation, the preservation of evidence, and potential tampering.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rajnish Kashyap, head of the Special Investigation Team (SIT), acknowledged the lapse to IANS, confirming the belt was secured from the scene but omitted from the initial autopsy submission. Kashyap stated that the evidence has since been processed by the Forensic Science Laboratory team and delivered to AIIMS Bhopal.

He added that currently, the officials are retrieving footage from the CCTV cameras installed at their residence.
