As students gear up for National Eligibility cum Entrance Exam (Undergraduate) reexamination, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday called on officials to conduct the exam in a "secure, seamless and foolproof manner."
Following the paper leak, Pradhan said the medical entrance exam would be computer-based from next year onwards.
While chairing a meeting to review the preparations for the re-examination, the minister said all gaps identified in the earlier exam process must be eliminated.
Pradhan asked the officials to coordinate with district magistrates and superintendents of police across states to ensure monitor the examination arrangement robustly.
The officials were also asked to ensure adequate facilities for students, including drinking water, transportation and other essential facilities.
After the National Testing Agency cancelled the NEET-UG exam held on May 3 over alleged irregularities, the re-examination was scheduled for June 21.
The CBI has arrested at least 10 accused arrested in the NEET paper leak case from Delhi, Jaipur, Gurugram, Nashik, Pune, Latur and Ahilyanagar.
The May 3 exam was held across 551 Indian cities and at 14 overseas centres. Around 23 lakh students had registered for the exam. Four days after the exam, the NTA received information regarding the alleged malpractice on May 7 evening.
It was found that the paper leak was masterminded by two teachers: Chemistry lecturer P.V. Kulkarni, and biology lecturer Manisha Mandhare. Both of them knew each other through a woman, Manisha Waghmare, who is also in CBI custody. The two lecturers had allegedly roped in Waghmare to bring in NEET aspirants for special sessions before the examination.
