The BJP-led NDA has taken an early lead in five constituencies as vote counting for the Kerala Assembly polls enters its opening hours. As the party maintains these leads, the question remains: will the BJP secure more than one seat in the state?

According to news reports, the party is maintaining a lead in Nemom, Kazhakkoottam, Manjeswar, Palakkad and Kozhikode south.

As of 10:30 am, Rajeev Chandrashekar in Nemom is leading by 1,302 votes against CPI-M's V Sivankutty. While, BJP's T. Raneesh is leading by votes in Kozhikode South against IUML's Advocate Fyzal Babu. The party's Sobha Surendran is leading by 2,145 votes in Kerala's Palakkad against Congress candidate Ramesh Pisharody.

Seeking to open its account in the State Assembly, the BJP-led NDA is pinning its hopes on a handful of key constituencies this time.

Meanwhile, the initial two hours showed Congress-led UDF taking a massive lead in the assembly polls. The new reports said, UDF leading in 92 seats, LDF in 46 and NDA in five.

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) chief Sunny Joseph said it indicates a pro-UDF trend in the state and expressed confidence that the UDF will reach the 100-seat mark.
