Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday lashed out at Congress media chief Pawan Khera over a string of allegations levelled against him and his wife, Rinki Bhuyan Sarma, just days ahead of the polls on Thursday.
Rejecting all the allegations, the Assam CM stated that he and his wife Rinki would be filing civil and criminal defamation cases against Khera within the next 48 hours.
Today’s press conference by Pawan Khera reflects the deep frustration and panic within the Congress party. As Assam moves decisively towards a historic mandate, such desperate and baseless attacks only expose their sinking ground.

CM Sarma later flagged a series of errors with Khera's evidence of the alleged fraud.
Apart from claiming that there was a mismatch in his surname in the documents (which he said showed 'SARMA', instead of the official 'SHARMA') and the use of a public image not typically used in passport photos, he also flagged a series of errors in the alleged passports.
Busting Congress’ propaganda — serious discrepancies exposed.

The documents being circulated show multiple glaring inconsistencies, suggesting a crude and poorly executed attempt at digital manipulation:
1️⃣ Surname mismatch — “SARMA” used instead of the official “SHARMA”

This includes alleged errors in nationality, dates, passport numbers, and even spelling.
What has Pawan Khera alleged?
At the forefront of the Congress leader's allegations is the claim that CM Sarma had amassed Rs 52,000 crore, which was not accounted for.
Challenging him to prove the source of the alleged funds, Khera also claimed his "cross-checked" information showed that the BJP leader had stored his money in shell companies in Wyoming, a place that he claimed had "no tax", where "people's properties are hidden away".

The Assam CM's wife Rinki was also not spared, as Khera claimed that she had passports from three nations—a UAE Golden Card, as well as two passports from Egypt and Antigua & Barbuda—which he noted was a possible violation of the law, as he speculated that she might even be carrying an Indian passport.
"Himanta Biswa Sarma's entire politics is based on hatred against Muslims, but his wife holds passports of two Muslim countries, how?" he questioned in a post on X.
Pointing out that the Indian government does not permit dual citizenship, Khera also questioned whether Sarma himself carried multiple passports.
"Why didn't Himanta disclose his wife's Dubai properties in the affidavit?” he added in his series of scathing allegations against the Assam CM, urging Union Home Minister Amit Shah to launch a detailed probe into the matter.
