Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is in poll-bound Kerala on Wednesday for the inauguration and launch of several development projects, assured that the BJP-NDA government, which is in power at the Centre, will never abandon any of its citizens who are in trouble.
The assurance assumes significance as Kerala has a large expatriate population working in various countries in the Middle East.
The prime minister acknowledged that it is natural for people in Kerala to be concerned about the conflict happening in the Gulf and West Asia.
"Remember, the BJP-NDA government is in power today. Whenever one of our countrymen is in trouble, we have used all our strength to ensure their safety. Whether it is rescuing nurses from Iraq or Father Tom from the clutches of terrorists in Yemen, India never abandons its citizens in times of crisis today....Even today, our effort is to ensure the safety of Indians trapped in war-torn countries," the prime minister said.
Modi said he is satisfied with the way the governments of India’s friendly countries in the Gulf are taking care of Indian nationals.
"Our missions and embassies in those countries are providing assistance to them 24/7," he added.
PM takes on Congress, Left
PM Modi pointed out that the Congress is trying to score political mileage even during such unfortunate times and called it a "grave misfortune."
"Congress is deliberately making provocative and irresponsible statements to worsen the situation. So that our people stay stuck in that crisis, and then these people can start a campaign to make reels abusing Modi," the PM claimed.
PM Modi further said despite its immense potential, Kerala hasn't developed at the pace it should have. "The pattern of one LDF government, followed by another UDF government, has caused significant damage to Kerala. These two groups believe their turn will come in five to ten years. Therefore, they don't work hard for Kerala's development," Modi alleged.
