In a horrific incident, a 21-year-old man in Lucknow allegedly killed his father and dismembered his body in front of his sister after an argument.

The accused, Akshat, had shot his father, who owned a pathology lab, on Friday, February 20, then chopped his body parts and hid them in a blue drum in their house.

The incident reportedly occurred after the two had an argument over the father asking the son to pursue the medical entrance exam, NEET, Deputy Commissioner of Police Virkam Vir said.

Police said the crime was inspired by the blue drum murder case in Meerut, which occurred in March 2025. The man had reportedly read about the Meerut case on social media and planned to kill his father, Manvendra Singh, 49, following their repeated arguments.

The crime occurred in the accused's three storey home in Ashiana in Lucknow. Akshat had used his father's rifle to carry out the killing.

The accused also threatened his sister, a class 11 student who saw the crime happen, telling her that she would be killed if she spoke about the incident.

“The sister witnessed the entire episode but was intimidated into silence,” the DCP said. Mavendra had been missing since February 20. Three days after the incident, Akshat filed a missing person’s report.

He told police that his father left for Delhi, saying that he would return by the afternoon of February 21. he said that all three of his father’s mobile phones were switched off.

During the investigation, police traced the last mobile location to Manvendra’s pathology lab in Kakori.

During questioning, however, Akshat changed his story multiple times. At one point he claimed that his father died by suicide. Later, he admitted to having committed the murder.

DCP Veer said that Akshat reportedly killed his father after an argument at around 4:30 pm on February 20.

He then dragged his body to the third floor, where he used an empty room to dismember the corpse. Some of the body parts were stuffed into a blue drum, and some were packed into a car and taken to Sadrauna, where he dumped them. Some of the body parts are still missing. The rifle was found hidden under a mattress.

The victim was a single parent. Manvendra's wife had died nine years ago, and he had taken care of the two children on his own.

According to neighbours, Akshat had run away from home once about four years ago. He had also written a six-page letter, saying that he did not want to do MBBS and that he shouldn't be forced to do so.

Neighbours described Akshat as closed off and said that he rarely interacted with anyone.

He also suggested that his father close the pathology lab and open a lawn or a restaurant.

Neighbours said that Manvendra Singh was an active member of the community and celebrated events with everyone in the neighbourhood, Dainik Bhaskar reported.
