A retired ISRO employee, identified as Nageshwar Rao, on Wednesday allegedly strangled his wife to death at their residence in Bengaluru.

Rao, 65, also tried to kill himself and told police that he was worried about his wife, Sandya Sri's future.

Avalahalli police arrested Rao after they were informed about the incident at Virtuoso apartment complex in Bommanahalli around 11 am. Citing the preliminary probe, a senior police officer said Rao was reportedly undergoing treatment for depression.

"He was reportedly undergoing treatment for depression and was distressed. He allegedly intended to take his life after the incident, which is why he attacked his wife. There appear to be no other major reasons," said Saidulu Adavath, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Whitefield), as per PTI.

He used a towel to strangle his wife and stayed at the house after committing the murder. He then informed an acquaintance about the incident. A case of murder has been filed and further probe is on.

The couple’s daughter, who is based in the United States, has been informed about the tragic news.
