A BJP MP moved a motion in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, seeking the termination of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s parliamentary membership over his speech in the lower house on India-US trade deal.
Nishikant Dubey, who filed the notice, accused the Congress leader of misleading the nation with the support of forces like George Soros.
“I have moved a motion in the Lok Sabha against Rahul Gandhi for misleading the nation with the help of forces like Soros, who aim to harm the country. I have requested that Rahul Gandhi’s membership be terminated and that he be permanently barred from contesting elections,” Dubey told the media.

The MP, however, later clarified that he had not moved a privilege motion against the LoP.
“There is no privilege motion. I have filed a substantive motion detailing how he allegedly engages with the Soros Foundation, Ford Foundation, USAID and travels to countries such as Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and the US, and how he is linked with anti-India forces,” he was quoted as saying by PTI.
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi criticised Rahul Gandhi as an "immature part-time politician" and stated that the Parliamentary Affairs Ministry would decide on whether the BJP should move a privilege motion against him.
"He is an immature part-time politician. He has not presented any evidence for what he claimed yesterday," Joshi remarked.
BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal also weighed in, stating that Gandhi is unfit to be the Leader of the Opposition and condemned the "unparliamentary language" he used as "shameful."
"He did not utter a single word in his budget speech. Given the language he has used, it is unfortunate that no legal action has been taken against him. If he fails to substantiate his claims today, we will file a privilege notice against him," Jaiswal added.
In his speech, Gandhi accused the Narendra Modi government of compromising India’s national interests by allowing the United States to weaponise energy and financial systems in ways that negatively impact India.
"You yourself admit that we are facing a global storm that the era of one superpower is over, that geopolitical conflicts are intensifying, and that energy and finance are being weaponised. Yet, despite acknowledging this reality, you have allowed the United States to weaponise energy and financial systems in ways that impact us,” Gandhi said.
“When America says we cannot buy oil from a particular country, it effectively means our energy security is being dictated externally that energy itself is being weaponised against us. Are you not ashamed of this? I am saying you have compromised India's interests," he further said in his speech.
