Fresh twists have appeared in the January 30 suicide case of Confident Group chairman C.J. Roy during an income tax raid.
Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara on Wednesday said that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case was looking at Roy's mental history.
Parameshwara explained that the probe into Roy's mental history came after the business tycoon reportedly visited a psychiatrist in Jayanagar on January 29—the day before his death, as per a Manorama Online report.
Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan has also written to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman demanding a judicial inquiry into the death. Parameshwara claimed that the decision was up to FM Sitharaman as the Income Tax Department fell under her jurisdiction.
This comes after the SIT earlier found evidence proving that Roy had been under severe stress over the past six months.
The evidence showed that Roy had not been in debt, but had still accepted investments from various political leaders and film industry figures for real estate projects in Dubai and Kerala, a Manorama News report said.
It added that some investors had even asked for their money back, as they feared the I-T investigation into Confident Group might land them in trouble. This is said to have put Roy in a difficult spot, as it made him unable to account for the sources of many of his transactions.

Roy's business notes, including details of the investors, have also been received from the company's headquarters.
The SIT probe is also examining the extent to which the income tax investigation played a part in the alleged suicide of the 57-year-old—as his family has claimed—who reportedly shot himself with a gun during the investigation.
