A verbal exchange between the Leader of Oppposition Rahul Gandhi, and Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu inside the Parliament complex on Wednesday turned into a war of words after the Lok Sabha session was adjourned.

As opposition MPs staged a demonstration before the day's proceedings near the Makar Dwar, Bittu passed by. “Ye Kargil ki jung jeet ke aaye hain (seems like they have won the Kargil war)” he remarked as he walked by.

Gandhi then referred to the him as “a traitor friend”. "Here is a traitor walking right by. Look at the face," he said.

He then extended his hands for a handshake, saying, "Hello, brother. My traitor friend. Don't worry, you will come back (to Congress)."

Bittu refused to shake his hand while alleging that Congress sold out the country. “Desh ke dushman” was heard among the words. The two leaders were seen exchanging some more words.

The political clash has come amid the suspension of eight MPs from the opposition for throwing papers at the Chair during the Budget session and violating House rules earlier in the day.

The suspended opposition MPs include Congress members Hibi Eden, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Manickam Tagore, Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Prashant Yadaorao Padole, Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy, and Dean Kuriakose, along with CPM MP S Venkatesan.
