The Madikeri Rural Police arrested a youngster after videos of his sexual acts with several women appeared online, Kannada media reported on Thursday.

The police suspect that the accused, identified as Mohammed Savad of Madikeri, was not involved in the leak, as he was well aware of the consequences of such cases. Meanwhile, some reports claimed that the individuals responsible for the viral leak were identified as having been assaulted by Savad's gang. The police were not able to register a case and probe the incident initially, as the victims did not come forward with an official complaint.

Savad, a BBA student at a prominent college in Bengaluru, was arrested after his private moments with several young women went viral on the internet. After the videos were circulated across the Kodagu district, Kodagu Development Committee President Prasanna Bhatt filed a complaint with the Madikeri Rural Police Station, TV9 Kannada said in a report. It is believed that Savad himself recorded these videos on his mobile phones, reports said.

The incident has created a huge stir in Kodagu, Kannada media said, as some of the women involved come from politically active families in the region. The religious angle is also a reason for the public outrage, Hosa Kannada said in a report.

Recently, Karnataka DGP Ramchandra Rao, heading the Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement, landed in trouble after videos that captured him in a compromising position with women inside his official chambers went viral on social media. Even as the senior IPS officer claimed that the alleged videos were morphed and that people were trying to target him, the government suspended him pending an inquiry.
