We had reported earlier that Mike Flanagan ("Midnight Mass", "Doctor Sleep") is helming a long-form series adaptation of the acclaimed 1974 Stephen King novel, which was first adapted as a movie by legendary filmmaker Brian De Palma in 1976.

Prime Video, which is backing the new adaptation, has unveiled the first official images from the Original series headlined by Summer Howell and Flanagan's frequent collaborator Samantha Sloyan. It promises a contemporary reimagining — an expansive treatment that wasn't possible with the film adaptation — of King's novel. While an official premiere date hasn't been announced, the streamer announced a Fall release window.

The official logline provided by Prime Video is as follows: "Misfit high‑schooler Carrie White (Summer Howell) has spent her life hidden away inside the walls of her home with her fiercely protective mother, Margaret (Samantha Sloyan). After her father’s sudden, untimely death thrusts her into the unforgiving ecosystem of public high school, Carrie is forced to navigate a viral bullying scandal that tears through her community, the relentless pressure and casual cruelty of the social‑media age, and the awakening of mysterious telekinetic powers that rise alongside her adolescence."

Amazon MGM is backing the series. Flanagan is also involved in writing and executive producing the eight-episode series, four of which were directed by Flanagan. King is also serving as an executive producer.

Other cast members include Siena Agudong ("Resident Evil"), Alison Thornton ("Fire Country"), Joel Oulette ("My Life with the Walter Boys"), Josie Tota ("The Buccaneers"), Arthur Conti ("Beetlejuice Beetlejuice"), Thalia Dudek ("The Running Man"), Amber Midthunder ("Prey"), and Matthew Lillard ("Man of Tomorrow").
