Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday highlighted what he described as a growing trend among the younger generation of integrating devotion into everyday life through innovative expressions of faith.
Speaking during his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, Modi referred to the phenomenon of “Bhajan Clubbing”, calling it a wonderful effort to blend spirituality with modernity while preserving the sanctity of bhajans.
Bhajan Clubbing is an emerging trend in which large groups, particularly young people, come together in community settings in cities to sing bhajans and devotional songs.
"Large numbers of the youth are gathering in different cities across the country. The stage is decorated. There is all the pomp and show, and the atmosphere is no less than a concert. But what is being sung there is a Bhajan. This trend is being called 'bhajan clubbing' today, and it's becoming increasingly popular, especially among Gen Z," the prime minister said.
“These days, many such videos can be seen on social media,” he added.

Modi also touched upon a wide range of topics, including tomorrow's Republic Day celebrations, National Voters' Day, and India's role in the AI Impact Summit.
He highlighted the efforts of local communities in reviving the Tamsa River, which flows through Ayodhya and merges with the Ganga, after its uninterrupted flow was disrupted by pollution.
"People here started a campaign to give it a new life, and through everyone's efforts, the river was revived," the prime minister said.
Modi also mentioned the efforts of local people to clean reservoirs in Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur, which is grappling with severe drought.
"The soil here is red and sandy, which is why people face water shortages. Many areas here (Ananthapur) do not receive rain for long periods. To address this problem, locals resolved to clean the reservoirs. With the support of the administration, the 'Ananta Neeru Sanrakshanam Project' was launched. More than 10 reservoirs have been revived. Simultaneously, more than 7,000 trees have been planted," he said.
On National Voters’ Day
On the occasion of National Voters’ Day on January 25, Modi emphasized the importance of registering to vote upon turning 18.
“The voter is the soul of democracy. Whenever a young person becomes a voter for the first time, the entire neighbourhood, village, or even the city should come together to congratulate them and distribute sweets. This will increase awareness about voting among people,” he said.
“I would once again urge my young friends to register themselves as voters when they turn 18,” he added.
