In a shocking case in West Bengal, a suspect of a murder reportedly confessed that he wanted to consume the flesh of the man he killed on Tuesday. The victim was an old man who lived at a crematorium.

The incident took place in the Kurshahat area in Dinhata, Cooch Behar. On January 10, police recovered the body of an elderly man from the area after villagers raised an alarm.

Post-mortem reports showed that the body had a deep cut mark behind the neck. Police registered a murder case after taking note of the injuries.

The deceased man has not been identified and was said to be a mentally challenged individual who took shelter at the local crematorium.

The accused, identified as Ferdous Alam, was arrested after locals reported seeing him washing the body at a pond nearby. Alam is a resident of Thoraikana village in the area.

According to the sub-divisional police officer SDPO of Dinhata, Dhiman Mitra told the New Indian Express, "The accused had taken the body to his house and cleaned it thoroughly with water. He had planned to eat the flesh of the deceased. Following investigations, we thought the deceased, who was mentally challenged and used to stay at the crematorium, became a soft target of the accused."

Alam was also reportedly under the influence of intoxicants when he allegedly killed the man.

The accused had been admitted to rehabilitation multiple times in the past and had no criminal charges against him prior to this case.

The accused has been remanded to police custody by the court and will undergo further interrogation under custody.
