Tamil Nadu police have booked the four juveniles held for assaulting a person from Odisha under attempt to murder charges, and an intensive probe is underway, IG (North Zone) Asra Garg said on Tuesday. The senior police official clarified that the victim was not attacked because he was a migrant.
Garg told presspersons that an intensive probe was launched soon after the video of the assault went viral. According to police, the victim, K. Ashok from Odisha, was on a visit to Chennai and was not a migrant worker.

Police said the teenagers were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board. Based on the Board's directions, three of the youths were sent to a juvenile home while the fourth was handed over to the custody of his parents, Garg said.
A video went viral on social media recently, showing four youths apparently wielding a sickle and threatening a youth onboard a suburban train. When the train reached Tiruttani, the juveniles allegedly forced Ashok to deboard the train, and they attacked him near Tiruttani railway quarters.
"The police booked an attempt to murder case under section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the maximum punishment for the offence. Also, it was established that the four had made videos while carrying out the assault and posted them on social media," PTI reported, quoting the senior police officer.

Garg added it is being investigated whether the juveniles unleashed the violence under the influence of alcohol or drugs. "They admitted that they kept a long curved blade (pattakathi) with them due to previous enmity with some other boys," he added.
