JNU student leader Umar Khalid, who was accused in the Delhi riots conspiracy caase, on Thursday received a two-week interim bail to attend his sister's wedding.

A Delhi court granted the interim bail from December 16 to 29 after the jailed activist furnished a personal bond of Rs 20,000 along with two sureties.

The former JNU student approached the court in Karkardooma for the bail, pointing out that his sister's wedding is scheduled for December 27. He said his presence is essential for family ceremonies and preparations.

Khalid was ordered not to use social media or contact any witness. The court also directed him to meet only his family members, relatives and friends. He has to remain at him home or places where the wedding ceremonies take place.

In December 2024, Khalid received a seven-day interim bail to attend a family wedding.

Khalid was arrested under the UAPA in connection with alleged conspiracy behind the February 2020 communal violence.

The trial court and the Delhi High Court have previously rejected his regular bail petitions. A plea is now pending before the Supreme Court.
