Delhi police have launched an intensive probe after a car exploded near the Red Fort metro station in the national capital. About three to four adjacent cars caught fire in the blast, and firefighting is underway.

The Delhi fire department said, "A call was received regarding an explosion in a car near Gate No 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station, after which three to four vehicles also caught fire and sustained damage."

The explosion comes hours after security forces from Jammu and Kashmir foiled a major terror module in Haryana's Faridabad. Security forces seized 360 kilos of possible ammonium nitrate, assault rifle and other ammunition during the searches and have arrested Dr Muzammil Shakil, 35, a physician, for storing explosives. Earlier in the day, security forces arrested a woman doctor, Dr Shaheen Shahid, from Lucknow. Forces recovered an AK Krinkov rifle with three magazines, a pistol with live rounds, two empty cartridges, and two additional magazines from a car belonging to Dr Shahid.
