The operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in Delhi were disrupted on Friday due to a technical snag, delaying over 100 flights. All major airlines, including IndiGo, Air India, and Spice Jet, faced delays due to air traffic congestion.
An advisory issued by the IGI read: "Due to a technical issue with the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system, flight operations at IGIA (Indira Gandhi International Airport) are experiencing delays. Their team is actively working with all stakeholders, including DIAL (Delhi International Airport Limited), to resolve it at the earliest."
The efforts to resolve the issue are underway, the advisory added. All major airlines too issued an advisory to passengers, regretting the inconvenience caused.

The busiest airport in India, the New Delhi airport handles over 73.7 million passengers every year.
The Airport Authority of India (AAI) also issued a statement stating flights were facing delays due to a technical issue in the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS), which handles Air Traffic Control (ATC) data. “Controllers are processing flight plans manually, leading to some delays. Technical teams are working to restore the system at the earliest. We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of all passengers and stakeholders."
Last week saw multiple technical issues disrupting the functioning of the airport.
Two days ago, the IGI Airport witnessed severe air traffic congestion due to GPS spoofing. During the event of a spoofing, the aircraft’s navigational capabilities are affected, and controllers have to manually maintain safe separation between planes, leading to heavy radio communication and workload.
On Tuesday, there was also a sudden shift in wind direction towards easterlies. As per reports, at least seven flights operated by IndiGo and Air India were among those diverted on Tuesday, and the data by FlightRadar showed that New Delhi IGI ranked second globally that night for airport disruptions, behind only Kathmandu.
